In late April, the construction department was handed the daunting job of a major improvement at Meziadin. The long, single track run from Dee's into the North Kalum yard was causing too many traffic delays and something had to be done. Meziadin was the place to double track, but the current bridge spanned four river beds. The one that the river currently occupies and 3 others that had been 'wet' at one time or another. A conrete abutment at the south end was the first piece to appear.
Eventually, a second concrete pier-type bridge was built west of the existing track, with similar costruction to the first. This made a dangerous proposition for the crews as there was nowhere to safely step-off while awaiting traffic meets.
Though not the best solution, the Meziadin passing track was inaugurated in June by Porter #3 with a party of dignitaries in tow. The Meziadin track allowed more timely traffic movement, but was not a permanent solution.
