2-8-2 locomotive on Meziadin Viaduct

Skeena Pacific Railway is pleased to announce the return to service of Mikado
(2-8-2) locomotive #2295 (Baldwin, 1947) following an extensive rebuild. The locomotive will be entering full service in May 2003.

Seen to the right, drifting downgrade in the Tahltan Subdivision toward Dee's Junction, #2295 easily handled a test train to the northern service centre of the System without any problems being encountered. None were expected, even though this locomtive is more than 50 years old. This is a tribute to the craftsmanship of the men and women of SPR shops located near Kitimat, BC.

Locomotive #2295 is the last  of six 2-8-2 Mikado locomotives originally built for the Skeena and  Pacific Railway, ordered between 1941 and 1945.   Skeena and Pacific was re-chartered as the Skeena Pacific Railway in 1948.

Skeena Pacific Railway is privately held as a wholly-owned subsidiary of
Skeena Pacific Consolidated, a Gilham Family 1/29th Enterprise.
